2018 week #36

09.02.18
counting our blessings for this guy today, and also for the angel in disguise who gave him the heimlich when he choked on a fireball

09.03.18
sunday’s can be a little rough for indie, and that can roll over into monday too.

generally, she’s real good at communicating loud and clear, but while it was obvious that something was hurting her, (’cause she was crying “owwwwey, owwwwey” at my feet” ) i didn’t know what, ’cause there’s quite a list of possibilities with babies.  is it teeth or diaper rash?  ear infection, tummy ache…….or maybe she  pinched her fingers or fell again……   how to know?

in desperation i pulled the baby carrier down from the top shelf, thinking that it would be like hands free cuddling for her.  when indie saw it, she pathetically whimpered, “thank you”

the joy lasted only a couple minutes, and then she realized that the backpack carrier was rather confining, and this child hates to be confined.

09.04.18
“mommy  look!  she’s so ‘dorable!”

09.05.18
not the recommended way to juice a tomato

playing the “roman” school game they made ….

09.08.18
wren’s made up game – slightly reminiscent of candy land, but with much shadier rules.

  • Lois steinerHi Amy!
I enjoy your blog! I am Matt and Gail Steiner’s daughter (9th in family) but am also married to a Steiner 😉. We have four boys ages 4, 2, and 6 month old twins.

I’m curious what homeschool curriculums you use, and also why you choose to homeschool. Our oldest will be kindergarten age next year and we are still undecided on what route of schooling. I love to hear others views on what they choose, if you don’t mind sharing 😊 Thanks!ReplyCancel

    • AmyOh my, that’s a big question. Here’s an abreviated version of my answer, but feel free to email me for more info.
Clint and I chose to home school largely for the lifestyle. When kindergarten rolled around for our oldest, we couldn’t imagine him being gone from home 5 days a week for 6 hours. We love living life with our kids, and think it’s healthy for children to spend most of their time around a variety of ages as opposed to only their peers. (and beside the school setting, when does that ever happen?) I strongly believe in the quality of home education – no one knows or loves your child better than your their parents and also in the right to chose the content of my child’s education. It’s big stuff.
I always suggest taking it to God in prayer, and then, even if you’re not sure, just try kindergarten. There’s so many curriculums out there that totally walk you through what to teach every day. I am not a gifted teacher – at all – but I can use material from those who are.
I think I started by using “My Father’s World” with Hudson. Honestly, with Wren being my 4th kiddo, I piece together something really simple. ABC Bible verses, handwriting, Right Start Math and “The Reading Lesson”. We do “formal” school about 3 days a week for kindergarden, but I try and keep lots of books and art supplies around for her to use in her free time.
      Hope this helps a littleReplyCancel
