with wren’s birthday quickly approaching, i’d been keeping my eyes open for a little table and chair set for her; what i thought would be the perfect gift.
after looking….and searching…..what i found was either:
ugly
expensive
too small (i wanted to be able to seat 4)
did i mention expensive?
just not quite right
then it hit me – i can make this!
the table turned out really well. i did slightly shoot myself in the foot as far as saving money as i have a little bit of a chair obsession. I was visualizing four different eames era white chairs for around the table, and these did eat up the budget rather quickly, but i am really happy with how everything came out. we’re still waiting on one chair to ship, and grandma one of the others to give wren for her birthday. the other 2 chairs (and the table) are mostly camping out in the attic until i figure out a way to wrap them.
supply list:
round table top (i purchased this one from Lowes, but you could easily make your own and it’d save even more)
leg kit (this one from etsy is just great – you can specify if you want straight or angled legs, the exact length of the legs and more!)
paint or stain (i had leftover floor paint from the boys’ room)
drill
screwdriver
#1. paint your table top. the floor paint i used took 2 coats – no primer. once done, it’s better so store your tabletop flat rather than leaning against something so it doesn’t develop a bow
#2. look admiringly at your table leg kit
#3. place, measure and mark the leg attachment plates on your top. i tried to do this mathematically, but ended up just eye-balling it, and then measuring and slightly shifting the plates until there was an equal distance between each mounting plate.
#4. pretrial your screw holes to help start your screw straight, and prevent the wood from splitting. use the drill to get the screws mostly in, and then finish tightening with the screwdriver. You don’t want to over tighten, or this will strip out your screw hole.
enjoy!
