happy first birthday indie girl

after all my intentions to keep things very simple and low key, i may have went a bit overboard on the cake.  clint wisely kept his mouth shut, but kindly ushered the kids out of the kitchen and to arby’s for supper while i was trying to assemble my masterpiece before the party.  it actually was supposed to have one more layer, but i didn’t have confidence in my cake-building abilities, and thought it might tumble it i went that high.  even though it wan’t practical, i got a lot of enjoyment out of making it

one of my happy childhood christmas memories is pulling out our velcro felt advent calendar every december.  i wanted to continue the tradition, but was hoping for a classier calendar – etsy to the rescue – i love that site!

now my kids look forward to adding a piece to our advent puzzle every morning.  they’ve got some kind of system for taking turns, but it hasn’t been foolproof.  i guess some pieces are more exciting than others….( and the ol’ debate about who will be able to add baby jesus )

sunny provided me with great entertainment while i was in the kitchen with her snow man building escapades.  that stinkin’ carrot nose was giving her so much trouble.  she finally had wren brace the snow man head between her knees while sunny pushed and twisted that long orange nose in .

succesful motherhood requires mastering multi-tasking.  while i get ready in the morning, wren recites her bible verses and indie chew on our toothbrushes
