textures – linen

It’s no secret that I love the texture of natural things….wood, wool, silk and especially linen,  so I was super excited when Tricia, from Rough Linen, sent a package with some of their items for me to try.

Our current bath towels had been a bit of a headache.  I’d bought nice ( read expensive ) towels when we moved in that were a heather gray on the front and white terry on the back.  Lovely, but what I didn’t realize at the time was that country water is the death of white towels, and with a colored front, there aren’t a lot of whitening options.  So, we were living with stained or bleach spotted towels….grrrr….

The linen bath towels are totally different than any other towel I’ve tried.  Forget soft and fluffy, these are a bit more exfoliating, but I’ve actually come to really like them; Clint’s still working on it.  I really am happy with how the natural linen looks in our bathroom, (the black was a little too stark, but I think it would really fit well in a modern bath ) and the biggest plus is how fast these towels dry.  Good-bye dank musty towel smell.

My favorite item has to be the half apron – seriously, put it on your Christmas list.
I have a full apron, but seldom mess with it because it’s one more step to pull it over my head (watch out hair) and tie the two ties.  This half apron I’ve been wearing almost daily.  It makes me feel like a french chef, and is a much better place to wipe my hands than the back side of my pants!

Linen is an investment, but, like most things, you do get what you pay for.  I’d made a quilt for Sunny’s bed using a linen sheet from a well known store as the material on the face, and it already has a few wholes in it.  I scrimped and saved for the bed linens from Rough Linen for Clint and I’s bed when we moved in to our new home, and they’re still going strong; ( despite being washed almost weekly ) there really is a big quality difference.
